A dominant 2nd half has seen the GMAS Diamonds continue their unbeaten start to the 2023/24 BABA Senior Womens Season.
After a small delay it took 3 minutes for GMAS to open their account with an Isabella Wilmot layup the only real highlight of the opening half. With the game not reaching any great heights and both teams going end to end without making the scorers work too hard it took another 10minutes before Tamika Maccora was able to successfully put down both shots from the line to keep the Saints Queens in the match. Again, both teams continued to struggle to find the hoop with the half time score GMAS 5 and Saints 2.
After a Travis Brown pep talk the Diamonds came out with a point to prove. The GMAS side through Ava Kunkle and Tracey Klingner added a quick 4 points before Wilmot shot a huge basket from almost the carpark to give her side a 10-point lead. Scoring once again dried up as both teams continued to miss easy opportunities to score with the Saints side shooting 4 shots straight over the backboard. The Diamonds continued their second half dominance as the Saints couldn’t find any answers the GMAS with the young guns from the Diamonds shooting everything to go on a 10-0 run before Maccora hit an easy inside shot to finish the scoring for the match.
The 22-5 for the Diamonds sees them go to a 3 win, 0 loss record after 3 rounds with a huge round 4 matchup against Colts Australia next week. For the Queens, whilst sitting at 0-3 they have shown plenty to say that if they can put together 40minutes of basketball then they will cause teams havoc moving forward.
