The Busselton Blazers 13boys Championship team has beaten some of the best teams from across regional WA to be crowned the 2023 Belt Up Basketball WA Country Champions.
Team team, led by Coaches Garry and Rohan Stokes took to the courts at the Bendat Basketball Stadium in Perth over the weekend, playing 7 games across the weekend in some hot and tough conditions.
Under a new system the Busselton Amateur Basketball Association were required to submit teams into the “Championship” Division this year, however, this challenge was something the Blazers took to with enthusiasm and positivity, coming up against the likes of Geralton, Albany and arch rivals Bunbury.
The Blazers took to each game with intent and went through the group stage only losing to eventual grand final opponent the Geraldton Buccaneers by 1 point.
The Grand final saw a hotly contested game with the scoreboard reflecting this with the lead never getting into double digits. With 3 mintues to go the Blazers were challenged by the Buccs who got the deficit down to just 3 points but the Blazers held firm scoring a couple of quick baskets to finish the match winners 35 to 27 and being crowned Country Champions 2023.
