The Oilers got off to a hot start with SW Slammer Jack Flynn scoring the opening 2 baskets inside the first 2 minutes. Dunsborough continued their early dominance of the game to get out to 8-0 lead before Mitch Tenardi sunk the Boomers first points after 11 minutes.
Kelton Kemp then scored to keep to Boomdogs in touch and reduce the margin to 4. Both teams then traded missed opportunities at both ends and waste valuable minutes before the Oilers Harry Mooney hit the first 3 pointer of season to take the Oilers out to a 9-point lead. The Boomers continued to fight back through Tenardi and Diesel Hill before Jack Flynn showed his class and hit back-to-back 3s to see Dunsborough go up 18-12 at half time.
Flynn started second half the way he finished the first with an early 3 pointer. The match was able to find a little bit of rhythm as both teams traded baskets as Tenardi and Flynn both score for their respective sides. Kemp hit his 3rd basket to keep the Boomers in touch and reduce the Oilers lead to 11 points.
Matt Mansfield then went BANG! with his first 3 and followed up with a 2 to make the margin a game high 16 points. The Boomers were unable to stop outside shooters of the Oilers as Marinovich hit a 3 to increase the margin to 19.
The Oilers continued their dominance of the game and flexed their muscle to put on 8 quick points to take complete control over the game. Boomdog, Ethan Bowman scored to stop the momentum, however Atkinson and Malcolm stepped up for Dunsborough to keep the Boomers at bay in the dying stages.
Dunsborough Oilers start their championship defence with a 26-point win.
